New student government group stands up for rights of disabled

Hello, my name is Mary Dorsey and I am the executive director for the Associated Students with Disabilities (ASD), a program within ASUA.

Some of the primary goals of ASD are to educate students on disability-related issues, attitudes on campus toward students with disabilities, and work as an advocate of the disabled community to address their needs and bring about change when necessary. [Read article]

Ranking 50th masks many UA highlights

The UA squeezed itself into the 2002 U.S. News and World Report "Top 50 public doctoral universities" last week, coming in at No. 50.

And although the UA fell 11 spots from last year, the numbers should not be alarming nor should they deter prospective students. Many of the criteria used to manifest the report mask many UA highlights.

Hidden behind the crude general ranking are exceptional departments that are outstanding within their peer programs. [Read article]

Rain in the desert. Everyone runs to windows and feels obligated to announce, "It's raining!" I'm not personally a fan of overcast days, but it's hard to deny that the desert needs the rain.

Unfortunately, rain also brings flooding. Anyone who remembers the tail end of this year's monsoon season remembers wading through water ÷ in some cases over a foot deep ÷ all over campus.

The problem of flooding in central Tucson is not new. In fact, it's as old as the neighborhoods surrounding the UA. [Read article]
