photo Wildcats go on a Duck hunt

Before the season even started, the Wildcat football team was on an uphill battle to compete in the Pacific 10 Conference. They were chosen by almost everyone in the nation to finish eighth in the 10-team conference.

After four non-conference games and plenty of injuries to key players, the hill might have gotten even steeper.

UA (3-1) opens up its Pac-10 schedule against the No. 8 Oregon Ducks at 7:24 p.m. on Saturday at Arizona Stadium. [Read article]

Wildcats to host weekend tourney

There's a reason teams of every sport want home-field advantage when they play.

For only the second time in seven contests, the Arizona women's soccer team (4-3-1) is going to experience playing in Tucson.

UA places 18th in SI's sport-college rankings

Sports Illustrated has rankings for nearly every sport, but for the first time in five years it took on the challenge of ranking America's best sports colleges in its latest issue.

In the magazine's rankings of all 324 Division I athletic programs, it placed Arizona as No. 18.

Texas was picked as the No. 1 sport college, followed closely by Stanford, Oklahoma, Florida and South Carolina.

According to the rankings, UA is the third-best school in the Pacific 10 Conference, behind Stanford (2) and UCLA (11). The Bruins were donned as the magazines best in 1997. Oregon (20), Southern California (21) and Arizona State (25) round out the rest of the Pac-10's best. Oregon State was the conference's worst at No. 110. [Read article]

Hey President Likins: The revolution has started, and it's time for this fair university to join suit.

Last night, Florida State took on rival Clemson, in the cleverly named "Bowden Bowl," the annual match-up pitting legendary FSU coach Bobby on the opposite sideline of son Tommy. Because of "anticipation of heavy traffic" around the central Tallahassee campus for the game, Florida State officials decided to cancel classes both yesterday and today, ultimately giving students what they call a "fall break," just five weeks after classes got underway. UA ruggers represented on U.S. Collegiate Team

With the 35th season of UA men's rugby team kicking off in a mere two weeks, both current and former Wildcats are looking to continue their recent success.

Senior flanker Tom Dolan leads several Arizona standouts making a name for themselves within the rugby world on the national and international level.

Dolan was recently selected to play for the 2002 United States Collegiate Team aptly dubbed the All-Americans. [Read article]
