Former head basketball coach talks of handball, taking on Lute Olson and sugar cookies

WILDCAT: How long did you coach at UA?

LARSON: Well, let's see, 1959 to · 12 years I guess.

WILDCAT: So what have you been doing since then?

LARSON: I did TV commentary for football, basketball and baseball for 15 years. I retired a year ago.

WILDCAT: Are you enjoying your retirement?

LARSON: Oh, yeah. It's not bad just hanging out with my wife.

WILDCAT: Do you still play basketball?

LARSON: No. Now I play golf and handball.

WILDCAT: Really? I'm on the UA club handball team. My boss' husband is the coach, so of course I joined to get on her good side. Just kidding, it's really fun.

LARSON: Ed McComb? I play with him every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. You should come play with us some time. We play on court nine, it is named after me.

WILDCAT: Wow, that's impressive. My cousin's friend named her cat after me. Weird. If you and Coach Olson were to play a game of one-on-one basketball, who would win?

LARSON: He's a little bit bigger than me. He won't let me inside anyway.

WILDCAT: But you would dominate at handball. Have you ever dunked the basketball?

LARSON: Oh, no.

WILDCAT: What about cookies, do you dunk your cookies?

LARSON: Of course.

WILDCAT: What is your favorite type of cookie?

LARSON: Sugar cookies, I dunk it and then it takes two bites before it's gone.

WILDCAT: Now do you eat it all at once or split it and savor each side.

LARSON: All at once. I dunk and eat.

WILDCAT: Does your wife make sugar cookies for you often?

LARSON: No not anymore. I don't know what's wrong with her. My mother used to make them very often. I just can't get my wife to, though.
