Suspected bike thief caught
A man was arrested for trespassing and theft on Oct. 11, after he had fled from police the day before, reports stated.
At about 5:45 p.m., UA police officers went to the Quik Mart at the intersection of East 22nd Street and North 4th Avenue. UA police met with Tucson Police Department officers who had detained a man based on a stop and arrest bulletin that had been broadcast by the University of Arizona Police Department.
The man had fled from police the day before, when he stole a bike on campus, reports stated.
A UAPD officer saw the man in the back seat of a TPD patrol car, and immediately recognized him as the man who had fled on Oct. 10, reports stated.
The man denied being in the area of the UA the day before, and denied stealing any bicycles.
The man said he had purchased the bike from "some wetback," for $40. Police noticed the man did not have a lock for the bicycle, reports stated.
The man, 26, was arrested for trespassing and theft, and taken to Pima County Jail. An officer went to speak with the man's parents.
His parents let the officer into their home, and he noticed a bicycle near the kitchen area. His mother told police the bike did belong to her son, and that he had had it for about a month. She said she did not remember where her son got the bike. Police asked the woman if her son owned any other bikes, and she said he did not.
The woman was surprised when police told her they had found her son with another bicycle, reports stated.
The man to be arrested for bicycle theft said he only owned the one bike he was with at the time of arrest.
The officer then asked him about the bike at his house. The man refused to answer and then said the bike at his house was broken. Police asked him to describe the bike. He could not remember anything about it. The man was booked into Pima County Jail, reports stated.
Wallet with a fake I.D. found
Police found a student's fake identification card after a man found a wallet on campus and gave it to police on Oct. 14, reports stated.
The man found the wallet at the Science-Engineering Library, 744 N. Highland Ave., and turned it into the University of Arizona Police Department at about 5 p.m.
Police noticed the wallet contained a CatCard, credit cards and two California driver licenses.
Police noticed the licenses had different birthdates, with one showing that the student who owned the wallet was 21 years old, reports stated.
Police were unable to contact the student. The wallet was placed into property as evidence, reports stated.
Theft from motor vehicle
An employee reported someone broke into his truck and stole about $300 worth of car stereo equipment, reports stated.
The employee told police the theft occurred sometime between 8 a.m. on Oct. 14, and 5:20 p.m. on Oct. 15, while the truck was parked in the Cherry Garage, 1641 E. McKale Drive, reports stated.
The employee said someone had broken the driver's side truck window and stolen his car stereo and two subwoofers behind the seat.
Police saw the driver's side window had pry marks that looked as if a flathead screwdriver had been used to pry the window open. Police then found a flathead screwdriver on the ground and placed the tool into property as evidence.
The dash of the truck was taken apart around the stereo, but did not seem damaged. Nothing else was stolen or damaged. There are no suspects or witnesses, reports stated.
Attempted bike theft
A student reported she found someone else's bike seat on her bike on Oct. 14, after someone tried to steal her bike, reports stated.
At about 12:15 p.m., police met with the student at the racks southeast of the Architecture building, 1040 E. Olive Road.
The student told police she locked her bike with a U-lock and a cable lock, and took her bike seat with her to class. When she returned at about 11:50 a.m., she noticed the cable lock was missing, the front tire was loose, and another bike's seat was on her bike, reports stated.
Police checked other bikes to see if one was missing a bike seat, but did not find any.
The bike seat was placed into safekeeping at the University of Arizona Police Department. There are no suspects, reports stated.
