Medicine Show
What kind of sound does a band produce that utilizes bass, vocals, saxophones, clarinets, drums, guitars, a banjo, a trombone, an accordion and an organ? It sounds similar to the theme song of Comedy Central's "Insomniac," except without that annoying host.
Dolomites could be compared to Ween or The Squirrel Nut Zippers, mostly because they use an accordion in almost every song, giving them a swinging type of sound.
They generate mood music for a cultured pub where everyone is simply there to have a few drinks and a good time, uptight selective socialization processes aside. Though there are few bars like this around the UA, playing such music might be a step in the right direction, particularly the track "In The Bar."
It seems as if Dolomites are simply creating music to make themselves and their audience smile. This compliment shines in their music.
Why else would a band cook food onstage to feed their famished audience? Apparently, Dolomites fry up things onstage like onion rings, chicken, steak and shrimp, calling it "sMeLL the MuziK!" A flaming toilet, fire shots, and a bubbling trumpet are also involved in their live set.
Culinary gimmicks aside, these guys may be good times at Plush Lounge on Nov. 20 if food, music and laughs appeal.
