A woman reported she saw two Mansfield Middle School students trying to set a tree on fire Thursday, reports stated.
At about 11:45 a.m., police went to the southwest corner of the intersection at East Sixth Street and North Cherry Avenue. When police arrived, the Tucson Fire Department had already put out the fire.
A witness said she saw one of the juveniles bent over next to the tree and then ran to the bus stop and onto a bus, which began heading eastbound on East Sixth Street.
The witness said she could identify the boy because she knew he was a Mansfield Middle School student.
Police were unable to contact the school's resource office.
Police took photographs of the scene and placed them into property as evidence, reports stated.
Harassing phone call
A student reported Thursday that a man called her and said he wanted to suck on her toes, reports stated.
At about 11:35 p.m., police met with the student in her room at La Paz Residence Hall, 602 N. Highland Ave. The student told officers she received a call from an unknown man about ten minutes earlier. The man said he wanted to "suck on your toes." The student asked him what he said and he replied, "I like to see my girlfriend with other people," reports stated.
The student then hung up the phone. The call was not traced because the student did not know she could use *57 to trace the call. Police told her how to trace a call for future reference.
The student did not recognize the voice of the caller, and said she does not know anyone who would call her like this, reports stated.
There are no suspects, reports stated.
Theft from motor vehicle
Four men were arrested Thursday by the Tucson Police Department after they were seen looking into cars near campus and were later caught with stolen items, reports stated.
At about 3:30 a.m., police went to Arizona Commons, 921 N. Euclid Ave., to assist TPD officers on a report of suspicious people in the west parking lot.
The four men were shining a flashlight into cars and pulling on door handles.
When police arrived with their lights off, they saw the men get into a car and pull out of the lot on East First Street headed eastbound. As the car drove past police, officers saw all four of the men in the car look at the police car, reports stated.
The car turned northbound onto North Euclid Avenue and then headed eastbound on East Speedway Boulevard. The car turned into the west parking lot of Jack in the Box, 934 E. Speedway, when TPD officers initiated a traffic stop while UAPD blocked off the southeast exit to the lot, reports stated.
Police approached the car and saw stereo equipment in the trunk of the car along with various tools and a flashlight in between the two rear passengers, reports stated.
Police spoke with a witness who said he saw the men inside a red Ford Escort and rummaging through it in the Arizona Commons parking lot. Police took the witness to the Jack in the Box, where he positively identified the men.
Police noticed three cars in the Arizona Commons parking lot that had possibly been broken into. Police were able to contact two of the three victims.
At about 5:20 a.m., TPD advised UAPD that their assistance was no longer needed, reports stated.
Theft of UA property
An employee reported Thursday that a laptop belonging to the UA was stolen from inside her office, reports stated.
At about 8:30 a.m., police spoke with an employee who said that on Oct.16 one of her student group members placed the laptop on a shelf in her office.
She said that on Oct. 18 at about 10 a.m., she discovered the laptop was missing from its carrying shelf. She said there were no signs of forced entry and no other items missing.
The employee told police that only four to five people have access to a key to her office door. She said the door is always locked and secure, but during the time of the theft, the door may have been unintentionally left unlocked.
There are no suspects or witnesses, reports stated.
