Peace rally not at all anti-Semitic
The Alliance for Peace and Justice in the Middle East is concerned with allegations made in Friday's letter, "Peace rally actually anti-Israel," which discusses our peace rally last week. We affirm our decision to address the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Others have misconstrued our rally, an understandable problem since the only Wildcat coverage was in the letters to the editor.

Canidate Endorsement: Horne best choice for ÎExcellence'
Because Arizona's next Superintendent of Public Instruction will have a voting seat on the Arizona Board of Regents, it is important for the UA community to determine which candidate's platform best fits the university's proposed new direction. Republican Tom Horne looks to be most compatible with President Pete Likins' "Focused Excellence" plan.
Horne, a former Arizona legislator and 24-year member of the Paradise Valley School Board, is most in tune with the needs of current and future college students. He is in favor of raising high school graduating standards and bringing more accountability to K-12 teachers. And while he does not presently support university tuition increases, he is willing to consider that they may be necessary later.

Who do they think they're protecting and serving?
Have you ever noticed what it says on the Tucson police squad car fenders?
Really, it's an interesting statement: "Ready to Protect, Proud to Serve" ÷ though I personally don't see what or how they protect a damn thing, and who they serve is anybody's guess.
A laughable myth circulating amongst us is that the job of the police is to prevent and solve crime, though this would almost be analogous to saying that a urinal causes people to pee.

Old Sparky is man's best friend
Good old Sparky. He's always there when you need him. Sure, he's got some unpleasant characteristics. Sometimes he'll make a mess on the floor, or ÷ much to everyone's dismay ÷ eat the Thanksgiving turkey instead of his food. These instances are rare, though.
Sure, they happen, but its not enough to send him off to the pound. It's good to have old Sparky around because he makes everyone feel better when times are tough.
