Two weeks ago, Will Bynum was encircled by a horde of media members. He was answering questions left and right about how the team is going to respond to being ranked preseason No. 1, about the four new freshmen and so on.

photo Jolivette one week away

Michael Jolivette is just itching to get back on the field.

For the first time since the junior cornerback injured his knee on Sept. 18, head coach John Mackovic hinted at the idea Monday that he could be back on the field sooner than expected.

Jolivette has been wearing a new brace on his knee this week that will allow more movement while doing footwork drills to help get his knee back into playing shape. [Read article]

Briggs the last line of defense

More than likely, there won't be much to enjoy about the remainder of the football season. Usually, games against UCLA and ASU on home turf would be enough to keep fans interested, but it's unlikely that many students will skip a Thanksgiving holiday to watch a team that had had more injuries than rushing yards last Saturday.

No, the much stronger likelihood is that the crowds will continue to dwindle, and Arizona will finish near the bottom of the Pacific 10 Confernce. [Read article]

Why she won: Ladd played an instrumental role in Arizona's 3-0 sweep of in-state rival Arizona State on Friday night. Ladd finished the match with 10 kills on a match high .571 hitting percentage. Her play over the past three weeks has helped the Wildcats win five our of their last six matches to move into a tie for third place in the Pacific 10 Conference. [Read article]

U-WIRE: U. Alabama-Birmingham may eliminate athletic department

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ÷ Will the University of Alabama-Birmingham still have an athletic program two years from now?

As reported in the Kaleidoscope on April 23, the University of Alabama System Board of Trustees issued a statement on April 15 saying that, in effect, UAB's athletic program would have to show a profit, or the entire department would be eliminated. [Read article]
