Hard to believe that shootings occurred with gun policy in place

I refuse to believe that the College of Nursing shootings actually happened. Guns aren't allowed on campus.

Chechen rebels not the victims in Russian hostage situation

Once again I find myself at odds with Mariam Durrani's latest rant (Tuesday, "Choke the fire before it burns the house down"). When she speaks of the 50 Chechen rebels who died, she speaks as if they are innocent non-combatants dying at the hands of the evil Russians. This is not the case. The Chechens collectively have initiated a civil war, thereby making themselves combatants. [Read article]

Canidate Endorsement: District 7 needs Hieb in Congress

Our District 7 Congressman will represent people from Yuma to Maricopa County, including the majority of UA students. Republican Ross Hieb has the ideas and experience crucial to acting in the best interest of the district, emphasizing federal support for university research, greater local autonomy in education, a guest worker program for immigrants and individual choice.

Hieb, chairman of the Finance Committee of the Arizona Western College Foundation, views universities as a driving force not only in the lives of people, but in the nation's economy and development. He intends to secure federal funding of research programs, upon which the UA will be increasingly dependent. [Read article]

photo Time to clean up Tucson Unified school board

While the Tucson Unified School District Governing Board doesn't directly affect UA students, those who notice it on their ballots should realize this non-partisan office is very important to K-12 education in Tucson. Four people are running for this non-paid position ÷ Adelita Grijalva, Bruce Burke, Cindy Schiesel and incumbent Rosalie Lopez. Voters must fill two seats from this list.

While I hate to recommend a vote "against" any candidate, Rosalie Lopez absolutely merits two solid votes for any candidates who can beat her. Since taking office four years ago, she has been the center of some of the most bizarre and unreasonable antics in the history of local politics in Tucson. [Read article]
