U of A Bookstore theft

A Tucson man was arrested Monday after a bookstore security guard saw him steal four compact discs, one of which was a Smash Mouth album, reports stated.

The UofA Bookstore security guard was watching surveillance footage when he saw the man, 40, look around and shove four discs into his shirt. The plastic sleeves were attached to the discs when he hid them under his shirt, reports stated.

The security guard followed the man outside before approaching him.

While speaking with the man, the security guard saw a CD fall out of the man's shirt. He escorted the man back into the store, 1209 E. University Blvd.

The man told police that he was homeless and had lost his job. He refused to answer any questions, adding that he didn't want to resort to stealing and had never been arrested before.

The man was arrested and taken to Pima County Jail on suspicion of theft under $250, reports stated.

The man was also told that if he returned to the UA campus without a legitimate purpose he would be arrested for trespassing, reports stated.

The four CDs were photographed and returned to the bookstore. Officers took the photos back to UAPD, where they are being stored as evidence.

Cash machine break-in

An unknown amount of money was stolen from a UA cash-to-chip machine, reports stated.

An employee at the Architecture building, 1040 N. Highland Ave., told police that the machine was broken into sometime between Friday and Monday morning.

Police believe that the thief drilled through the screws and removed the cash-verification plate. There was no money left in the machine when police arrived.

There are no suspects and no witnesses, reports stated.

Playing rough

A student wants to press charges after he was punched in the face during an intramural soccer game Monday, reports stated.

Throughout the game, the opposing player was playing aggressive and tried to push and trip him, the student told police, reports stated.

The student said that during a goal kick, a part of the game in which a player tries to kick the ball in from out-of bounds for an assist, the opposing player kicked the ball into the back of the student's head from approximately ten feet away, reports stated.

After getting hit with the ball, the student and opposing player approached each other.

The student put his hands into the air to keep the player away before the player punched him in the face, reports stated.

The dazed student fell on his hands and knees and was bleeding, reports stated.

Both men were ejected from the game.

While sitting on the bench, the student realized he needed medical attention and went to the University Medical Center, where staff determined he suffered from a closed-head wound.

The student told police that he wants to press charges, but doesn't know who the man is. He will try to learn about the man's identity from witnesses and other players.

He described the man as six feet three inches tall and blond.

Drinking in public

A Tucson man was arrested Tuesday night after police saw him drinking from a 40-ounce beer bottle, reports stated.

Officers saw the man with the bottle in a parking lot at 339 N. Martin Ave. Approximately one-third of the bottle was empty.

Police ran a background check on the man and learned that he had a warrant for trespassing, reports stated.

He was arrested and taken to Pima County Jail on suspicion of drinking alcohol in public and for having a warrant, reports stated.

Officers dumped out the remaining beer.
