Mackovic lacks Īpassion and love' UA football team needs

We are all shocked by the comments football coach John Mackovic made during Wednesday's press conference. He realized he was out of line and promised there will be a change soon. You can't change a hurting football team overnight.

I have always wanted to see the Wildcats go to the Rose Bowl and, apparently, we have been the runt of the litter for being the only Pac-10 team not to go to Pasadena. The best game I have seen is the Fiesta Bowl, when we blew out Miami in 1994. Dick Tomey coached that year, and after students' lament and anger for the next four years, he is gone. [Read article]

Victory for Mackovic no cure-all

This weekend was a time for John Mackovic to celebrate.

After a dismal 0-6 start to the Pacific 10 Conference season and one of the most tumultuous weeks in UA football history, his team hoisted him onto their shoulders to celebrate a 52-41 win over Cal.

But once the joy of Saturday's win wears off, the head football coach will find he has little to celebrate. His team, which is stuck in the conference cellar, has long been out of bowl contention, and Mackovic himself will now have to wear the stigma of being a short-tempered coach. [Read article]

Take the war on terror home: Our future is classified

I really wish I was in the military right now. I mean, with this war on terror that's just starting to heat up, I'd have a pretty good shot at a permanent vacation ÷ albeit to pretty lousy spots like, say, Iraq, North Korea, and maybe France, if they get too uppity.

Which is really not out of the question, since as far as we know, terror is a pretty damn open-ended thing!

According to the U. S., prosecutors in the inquiry of an American man who had links to al-Qaida, a judge whose job it was to decide whether the man could be held indefinitely, (i.e. eternally) couldn't be told what the definition of terrorist was because it was classified! Sweet Jesus! What other words are they going to classify to allow the government to act even more arbitrarily? War? Nation? Pretzel? [Read article]

photo Tom Turkey has a friend: Moby fights for fowl rights

Oh lordy, now. Troubles so hard. Don't nobody know my troubles but God. And Moby. At least that is what turkeys across America are thinking as they contemplate their existence over the coming week before Thanksgiving. The long-time animal rights activist has teamed up with PETA to fight widespread injustice against Meleagris gallopavo.

Reuters issued an article on Nov. 6, 2002, that detailed Moby's efforts to get people to call Butterball's turkey hotline to protest. He wants people to tell Butterball, "there is no proper way to kill and cook these beautiful birds." [Read article]
