Salmon: My comments aired on religious TV were appropriate

Recently, at a National Prayer Breakfast, Senator Joseph Lieberman said, "We are men and women of faith linked by a bond that transcends all other descriptors and dividers ÷ our shared love of God and acceptance of His sovereignty over us, and our common commitment to try to live according to the universal moral laws of the Lord." Remember victims and keep Sept. 11 events simple

A look at the schedule of events for UA's Sept. 11 noon commemoration ceremony on the Mall suggests that political and religious influences will overshadow what should be a solemn, simple remembrance of the victims' lives.

In an attempt to not offend any group on campus, the itinerary is becoming saturated with politically-motivated events. Instead of paying tribute to specific people who lost their lives, the event will focus on the feelings of a few students whose poetry was selected by a committee to represent their own non-controversial views. Some laws may save you from nothing except saving yourself

When I look at the widespread bastardry afoot in Washington these days, I have a hard time deciding whether I'd feel more joy feeding our executive and legislative branches alive to large snakes, or using the snakes on the people who upped my rent $50 a month this year. Ideally, the snakes would not go hungry, if you know what I mean! Without naming anyone ÷ like Bob Graham or our President of the ninth tee for instance ÷ several proposals have gotten me particularly piqued lately, though for the sake of brevity I've listed a mere two under their proper headings. Bad news never takes a break. Just as the Palestinian-Israeli conflict lost some of its heat, the issue of a U.S. attack against Saddam Hussein's regime has risen from the grave yet again and is back with one hell of a vengeance.

The American government is positioning for a preemptive attack against Iraq. U.S. troops in Turkey and Italy have been put on alert. This is serious business, folks. [Read article]
