Women's hoops outlasts Pepperdine
The Arizona women's basketball team avoided a letdown on the road by defeating Pepperdine in Malibu 80-68 last night.
Freshman Shawntinice Polk scored 16 points and ripped 14 rebounds, good for her second consecutive double-double in her two games as a Wildcat. Polk, along with senior Krista Warren, was too much for Pepperdine inside.
Warren scored a team-high 20 points as Arizona took a slim three-point lead into the half. Pepperdine took the lead on the strength of an 8-4 run to start the second frame, but Warren and Polk took over and made sure Arizona put a mark it the win column.

Rubio wants Wildcats back in Bear Down
If head volleyball coach David Rubio gets his wish, his team will stop playing its games in McKale Center and move to the smaller Bear Down Gym.
Despite having the highest average attendance in the Pac-10, breaking the school total attendance mark this year and being ranked seventh nationally in attendance for Division I schools while playing in the 14,525-seat McKale Center, Rubio is still attempting to get the team moved into Bear Down Gym, which would be a potentially more intimidating volleyball venue.

But now, when many sports fans watch television, they are not just viewing a game ÷ they experience it. It's no longer just the Michael Jordans and Brett Favres that people remember; it's the Dick Vitales and the John Maddens that leave a lasting impression.

Bye week heats up ASU rivalry
Arizona has not had a week off since the first week of September, and last week's break couldn't have come at a better time, with rival Arizona State coming to Tucson on Friday.
The team was coming off its first conference win of the season, a 52-41 win at California, and an extremely hectic week before that included a player meeting with President Pete Likins.
"The week off was huge," senior quarterback Jason Johnson said. "It allowed us to relax. We've be through so many emotions. We were able to get away from it and not be rushed into a game plan."
