The Arizona women's basketball team avoided a letdown on the road by defeating Pepperdine in Malibu 80-68 last night.
Freshman Shawntinice Polk scored 16 points and ripped 14 rebounds, good for her second consecutive double-double in her two games as a Wildcat. Polk, along with senior Krista Warren, was too much for Pepperdine inside.
Warren scored a team-high 20 points as Arizona took a slim three-point lead into the half. Pepperdine took the lead on the strength of an 8-4 run to start the second frame, but Warren and Polk took over and made sure Arizona put a mark it the win column.
Polk scored seven-straight points, part of a 17-6 run that put the game out of reach. Arizona led by as many as 16 and the game never got any closer than eight en route to the 12-point difference.
Arizona dominated the glass and shot exceptionally well (52.5 percent). The Wildcats posted a 45-33 advantage on the glass.
Five Wildcats scored in double digits, and allowed just two players on the Waves roster to break the 10-point barrier, led by junior guard Shandrika Lee, who put up 26 points.
Arizona will return home and begin preparations for its matchup with No. 9 Georgia on Saturday.
