Events

Musician Rich Hopkins performs Thursday night at 9 at Club Congress, 311 E. Congress St. He will be promoting his latest CD, "Bread, Soup and Struggles." For only $3 plus a can of food to benefit the Casa Maria Soup Kitchen, you can come watch this event. If you have any questions, call 622-8848.

The International Arts Society Film Program presents the Chinese film "In the Mood for Love" ("Huanyang Nianhua") on Friday night at 7:30. This award-winning film directed by Wong Kar-wai tells the story of love in Hong Kong in the 1960s. This event will take place in the Modern Languages building auditorium and is free to everyone.

Come hear Anna Duff on Friday night from 7 to 9. She will be performing her hypnotic sounds at Bookman's, 6230 E. Speedway Blvd. This event is free and open to the public. For more information, call Colin Waite at 748-9555.

Check out the Zeitgeist Improv Festival on Saturday night at 7. Held at the Mat Bevel Institute, 530 N. Stone Ave. , this event costs $5 and benefits the Society for Bevel Intentions Education Fund. Performers include The High On Out Duo, the Santa Barbara Project, El Creepy, and the Mat Bevel Orchestra. For details, call 882-7154.

Desert Winds will be showcasing their holiday repertoire on Saturday from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. This free performance will be held at Bookman's, 6230 E. Speedway Blvd. For more information, call Colin Waite at 748-9555.

Jonathan Thwaits performs on Saturday from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Bookman's, 1930 E. Grant Rd. This pop/rock musician will sing songs from the 1920s to the present for free. Call Chris Stead at 325-5767 for more details.

The Arizona Friends of Chamber Music presents Hong-Mei Xiao and Tannis Gibson Sunday afternoon at 3. This violinist and pianist can be heard at the Tucson Convention Center's Leo Rich Theater, 260 S. Church Ave. The general cost is $15 and student cost is $5. For more information, call 577-3769.
