Arabs want destruction of Israel, not Īthe ending of occupation'

Carrie Brown says a lot of half-truths in her guest commentary of Dec. 3, "Ending Israel's occupation: a moral obligation," but what she fails to point out is that this is the way things stand: Israel offered peace, and got war as an answer.

President Clinton was reported as saying to Yasser Arafat at the Camp David talks in July 2000: "If the Israelis can make compromises and you can't, I should go home. You have been here 14 days and said Īno' to everything. These things will have consequences. Failure will end the peace process · " Israel relinquished land for peace with Egypt (and Ariel Sharon dismantled settlements as part of that deal) and got peace. Israel even gave up small bits of land for peace with Jordan, and got peace. Israel relinquished land for peace with the Palestinians, and all it has gotten Israel is bloodshed and sadness. Threats must prompt tough repercussions

Robert Stewart Flores Jr. was a ticking time bomb. For years before murdering three of his nursing professors, he threatened teachers and acted in ways that should have been a red flag for disciplinary action.

Perhaps, had a proposal discussed at Monday's Faculty Senate meeting been in place, Flores would have been stopped before he vented his frustrations by killing his professors, and himself. [Read article]

photo Issue of the Week: Tuition raise: Who and how much?

Tomorrow from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Modern Languages building auditorium, President Pete Likins, Provost George Davis and the Arizona Students Association will be holding a Campus Town Hall designed to let students speak out on the issue of tuition costs.

With the state Legislature drastically slashing UA's budget for the second year in a row, the Arizona Board of Regents has been discussing the possibility of substantial tuition increases for 2003 and beyond. [Read article]
