How much is Lute Olson going to look at the tape of USC's 99-61 home loss Saturday to Pennsylvania?

"Not much," said the UA head coach about his team's opponent in tonight's game at the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena at 8:30 p.m.. "We're going to focus more on the game they played against UCLA."

It was in that game on Jan. 8 when the Trojans beat the Bruins for the first time since 1993 in Pauley Pavilion, 80-75.

Despite the fact that the rivalry between USC and UCLA has lost its luster while both teams struggle, Southern California (6-5, 2-1) showed its athleticism and ability to score points in bunches at Pauley.

The No. 2 Wildcats (11-1, 4-0) know that a loss to the Trojans just might be what USC needs to turn its season back in the right direction after its disappointing loss to Penn.

"Last year, when we went up to the L.A. schools, we lost them both," said UA point guard Jason Gardner about the potential of an upset tonight or Saturday against UCLA. "All the guys know that we need to go in there and get a ÎW.'"

The Wildcats, who are riding a season-high, six-game winning streak, are just 9-11 on the Los Angeles swing over the last 10 years.

But in UA's last meeting with USC in March, at the finals of the Pacific 10 Conference Tournament at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, the Wildcats won 81-71. After the game, a lot of the talk was about the performance of UA shooting guard Salim Stoudamire, who scored a career-high 29 points on 9-of-10 shooting against his friend, and former teammate at Double Pump Camp, Errick Craven.

"I'm sure that game will be in his subconscious," said Stoudamire about Craven in tonight's game.

Olson, however, said the Wildcats not only need to look out for Errick tonight but also for his twin brother Derrick.

"The Craven twins both take the ball to the basket very well," Olson said. "Errick is a better perimeter shooter than Derrick, but Derrick does a nice job of running the point for them."

In the Trojans' game against UCLA, it was Errick Craven who scored 24 points and was a key player in the 14-2 run in the second half to give USC a 63-52 lead.

But the player who has been the most productive for Southern California this year is junior shooting guard Desmon Farmer. A bench player last season, Farmer has emerged as the Trojans first scoring option, averaging 25.3 ppg in conference play. He put up a career-high 35 points against Washington State two weeks ago and then 25 points two games later against UCLA.

"He's quick, he shoots the perimeter three and he puts it on the floor really well," Olson said of Farmer.

Olson will try to counter Farmer's offensive ability with that of freshman forward Andre Iguodala. Iguodala was successful in slowing down Washington's top player Doug Wrenn in the Wildcats' last outing.

"We're hoping that what happened with Wrenn here will be something that we can count on from a defensive standpoint when we'll be able to utilize the freshmen in those defensive situations," Olson said.

USC sophomore point guard Brandon Brooks dislocated his left ankle and suffered a fractured fibula in practice on Tuesday and likely will miss the remainder of the season. Brooks, a first-year junior college transfer for Southern California, averaged 4.5 points and a team-high 3.5 assists in 15.0 minutes in 10 games as a reserve.

Brooks is a close friend of Stoudamire as they both grew up in the Portland area.

UA freshman Hassan Adams is expecting "a lot" of family members to be at both games in his first return trip home.

The Westchester native was heavily recruited by UCLA before he chose Arizona.
