Coldplay: A Rush of Blood to the Head
In an interview with Q Magazine, Chris Martin of Coldplay said he wouldn't like to be in U2 because, "I am already in one of the best bands in the world." Take a step back. Is he? U2, Radiohead, Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers· Coldplay?
He may very well be.The young bands today are too young at this point and most of the old bands have either broken up or fizzled out. So with this epic follow ö up to 2000's debut Parachutes, Martin might be able to make this statement with some credence. Exhale, Martin. A Rush is a bouncing, rollicking, tumble roll down a hill of renewal.
The lead off, "Politik," was written on Sept. 13 of last year. The verses contain "give me heart and give me strength" before bursting into the chorus of, "Open up your eyes!"
The first single, "In My Place," is easy listening for many, but a triumph for fans of the band.
"The Scientist" is one of the strongest of the many self-examinational/breaking up is hard to do-type tunes in the Coldplay catalogue. "Time is on your side now, not pushing you down," Martin sings on the piano driven closer "Amsterdam."
Time may also be on Coldplay's side after this Rush. Veteran bands know they have only so many comeback albums left before their name is replaced, while new bands waiting to make follow-ups to their huge last album have just been given a higher bar to grab for.
