Candy-stealing incident

I seriously doubt all of the facts will ever come to light, and I am in no position to make a judgment. The team knows it is constantly in the limelight, anything it does will be scrutinized, and many people would jump on the opportunity to break a story involving a scandal no matter how small or chocolate covered. The players have pretty much already been branded candy swipers regardless of what the investigation brings to light. Fellas, just stay out of trouble, or don't wear your Arizona gear when you lick your fingers clean.

Is Cal basketball for real?

California's strength of schedule is 154. Its RPI ranking is 33. The Golden Bears are No. 20 in the AP poll, and tied for first in the Pac-10. While worthy of a top-25 spot, the Bears have had a fortuitous season so far öö losing their two games at home to Kansas and Georgia, and getting the opportunity to play both Oregon schools and the southern California schools within the friendly confines. We all will see how good Joe Shipp and company are, as seven of their last 11 games are on the road. Don't count on the Wildcats sharing the lead with anyone for too much longer.

How far will softball go?

Jennie Finch has her own Web site. How cool is that? www.jenniefinch.net. Unfortunately, that will do Arizona no good because without Finch on the mound, the Wildcats are vulnerable. With Leneah Manuma also off the roster, Arizona's power has suffered too. But this is Arizona softball; the name alone is good for 30 wins a season. Add that in with the infusion of young talent on the mound plus the returning players, and you have a team that will go once again to Oklahoma City for the softball World Series; how far just depends on the mound.

Best Super Bowl commercial

Here's another Web site for you: www.reebok.com. You can go there and get a four-minute extended version of the "Terry Tate: Office Linebacker" commercial, by entering your e-mail (I used my best friend's) and making up a password. The clip doesn't sell anything, but who cares. It's hilarious, kind of reminiscent of the way former Daily Wildcat Editor in Chief Jeff Sklar used to punish us for the misuse of commas · actually no, I can't back that up. Anyway, I am not feeling all that creative right now, even if I could, I couldn't top a football player plastering co-workers for not recycling.

Candy-stealing incident

Going into the wrong huddle? Blowing a 20-point lead at home? These are the unfortunate side effects of hunger. Quite frankly, I think this whole Snickersgate thing is stupid. Do you know how much space 80 candy bars and $100 in change and $1 bills is? I don't think they raped AND pillaged Kansas. All that will come of this is those stupid UA munchies and weed jokes. It is interesting that these things happen after UA beats Kansas. After the Wildcats beat the Jayhawks in 1997, a Kansas City paper miraculously discovered that Miles Simon took a freshman colloquium in his third year.

Is Cal basketball for real?

I'd have to say yes, they've gotten it done this year so far. Their only losses have come to Kansas, who with Wayne Simien are a team even Pete Rose would have trouble betting against for the Final Four and Georgia, No. 1 in the RPI. Sure, their wins are against teams like Grambling and Howard (what? Aren't they 2-5 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference?), but after they beat ASU, in hell (Tempe) tonight and UA edges Stanford, it'll be the first time teams 8-0 in the Pac-10 have played.

How far will softball go?

In my family, it has pretty much become a tradition over the years on Memorial Day to have a BBQ and sit down and watch the softball team (in the national championship). Sure, the Wildcats lost their top two pitchers and power-hitting Leneah Manuma is out for the year, but in the exhibitions, it appeared Mackenzie Vandergeest will pick up the slack, while superstar freshmen pitcher Alicia Hollowell matures. Vandergeest hit some mammoth shots, of which a couple almost went into the construction area for the dance building. My tarot cards say they will be able to reach the title game again.

Best Super Bowl commercial

It is always nice to see the Raiders get punked, but the commercials were disappointing for the most part. For me, the MJ vs. MJ (falls in the polls because it was already released), the hungry squirrel and the Yao Ming and Yogi one are those also receiving votes. But Terry Tate, office linebacker, is no doubt about it, the best. I would have to incorporate this ad into my ultimate one, with the girls of the "tastes great, no less filling!" wrestling commercial de-clothing each other a la Tate. Girls on girls with hard hits; how can you go wrong?

Candy-stealing incident

Remember the last time that you snuck out of class early, giving the impression that you had to use the bathroom, to get yourself a delicious Kit-Kat? You arrive at the vending machine, insert your hard-earned money and the damn thing doesn't come out. You get angry, lightly tap the machine and the tantalizing combination of cookie and crunch drops down. I'm sure this is what happened to the boys in Lawrence. The difference being that the men on this team have big muscles, and their light tap was a heavy blow, or maybe this so-called "witness" was named Krzyzewski.

Is Cal basketball for real?

I have a hard time believing that the California men's basketball team is for real. I mean, maybe it's just me, but I have never met a hippie who can really play, at least not a hippie who isn't a Walton. I admit that I was only in Berkeley for a short time, but it seems to me that it would be hard to play basketball in Birkenstocks. Truly, I just hope that Cal hasn't lost any players to injuries sustained while playing with their hackey-sack. Just please save room for their electric cars outside of McKale on Saturday.

How far will softball go?

Let me start this pick by saying that I know very little about the softball team. I know that it is quite good, but I also know that it lost both its pitchers and its most powerful hitter from last year's team. However, I have walked by the softball field on occasion, and I have noticed that some of the balls over the fence are a bit lopsided. This all leads me to believe that this team is good. Also, truth be told, I have a slight crush on Lovieanne Jung ÷ not a Mrs. Neuheisel-sized crush, but a crush nonetheless.

Best Super Bowl commercial

Picking a best Super Bowl commercial is like picking your favorite swimsuit pose of Barbara Bush. By the time I got through the worst pre-game show of all time, then another dismal halftime show, I was too tired to watch the commercials. I did enjoy "Terry Tate: Office Linebacker," but I couldn't tell if he was really hitting those people in the ad, or if my eyes were deceiving me. My "Bud Girl" enjoyed most of the Bud Light ads, except the one where the clown drank with his butt. What in the name of Princess Mononoke was that?
