Senior second baseman Lisha Ribellia takes a cut Sunday against Arkansas. Though the Wildcat bats were in full force, defense has been a problem thus far.

The Wildcats showed no mercy against Arkansas on Sunday, driving in run after run until the eight run mercy rule was put into effect.

The game was called in the fifth inning after UA jumped out to a 9-1 lead -- the first mercy rule implementation of the young season for the Wildcats.

UA first baseman Wendy Allen's ground out to second base drove in the ninth UA run to conclude the Pepsi Arizona Softball Classic tournament. The win brought Arizona's season record to 13-1.

Defense: "D"

To say that Arizona's defense was "off" in Sunday's 9-1 win over Arkansas may be an understatement.

Head coach Mike Candrea gave the Wildcats a poor mark of a "D," saying that it's a lack of maturity -- not effort -- that allowed them to commit two errors.

UA third baseman Jackie Coburn said she wasn't mentally focused in the victory over the Razorbacks.

Despite scoring three runs and two hits, the UA sophomore said she needs to be more prepared while at third base.

The Wildcats also cruised by Florida International 6-3 on Saturday, but were even sloppier, committing four errors in the game.

Candrea gave his team a "D" mark after it committed just one error in the Fiesta Bowl Tournament, which cost it the game, a 2-1 loss to the University of Texas.

Fortunately, the Wildcats escaped defeat this weekend, but Candrea said stronger practices throughout the week will get his team more focused on defense.

Offense: "A"

Defense may have been off, but the same can't be said for UA's offense. In fact, the Wildcats' win against Florida International was in large part due to their strong batting.

Arizona accumulated 13 hits en route to its victory over Arkansas. The Razorbacks were a lot less successful against UA pitcher Alicia Hollowell, who allowed just five hits.

They combined for a total of 15 hits while Coburn hit home run number three with a two-run shot in the second inning.

Freshman's No-no's

Add another no-hitter to Hollowell's list of accomplishments so far this season.

Hollowell chalked up her second no-hitter of the season in a 6-0 win over Minnesota.

The UA freshman stuck out the first seven batters she faced and 15 overall, tying her career-high.

In Hollowell's first no-hitter against Wisconsin at the Fiesta Bowl Tournament, she stuck out 12 batters in the Wildcats' 1-0 victory over the Badgers.

Despite shutting out Florida International and earning the win against Arkansas, Hollowell said she wasn't pleased with her performance against the Razorbacks.

The UA freshman said she needs to be more consistent.

Although Candrea was pleased with both performances, Hollowell said she was frustrated after Sunday's 9-1 victory.

Up Next: Worth Wildcat Invitational

The Wildcats play host to their next tournament, the Worth Wildcat Invitational this weekend.

UA faces Drake and Oklahoma State on Friday followed by Virginia and Western Michigan on Saturday.

Arizona will wrap up the tournament against New Mexico (2-7) on Sunday.

The Wildcats are undefeated so far at UA's Rita Hillenbrand Memorial Stadium, winning all three contests this past weekend during the Arizona Pepsi Softball Classic.
