Though the No. 11 Arizona gymnastics team scored a school-record 196 or better in its sixth straight meet, the vital numbers went to ASU, 197.700-196.225 Friday night in Tempe's Wells Fargo Arena.

The Sun Devils set three records on the night en route to the upset. ASU boasted team-high scores on vault (49.650), floor (49.825) and a personal record in the all-around by Sun Devil sophomore Ashley Kelly (39.825).

"That was a situation of that night, on that floor," said Arizona head coach Bill Ryden. "We left this meet like we hadn't shown everything we had been showing in previous weeks."

Winning only the beam title with a 49.250, the Wildcats (7-4-1, 2-3-1 Pacific 10 Conference) faced difficulties on bars (48.775) and posted a season-low 48.825 on vault, an event in which Arizona was ranked fifth nationally with a 49.254 season average.

"We had some uncharacteristic problems at this meet," Ryden said. "It was a little bit of a wake-up call. I would not expect this type of performance to repeat."

Arizona State (7-4, 3-3) took an early lead after opening on vault and never looked back, producing four perfect 10s in the meet, two of which belonged to Kelly on vault and floor.

"Arizona State is known for putting up amazing scores at ASU, so we knew what the situation might be," Ryden said.

The lone individual title for the Wildcats belonged to junior Jamie Duce on bars. Duce set a career high with a 9.925.

"Jamie is one of the toughest competitors we have. She's always going to bring everything she has," Ryden said. "Even when the house burns down around her, she can still pull it out."

UA senior Andi McCabe landed third on vault (9.950). McCabe and fellow senior Sheehan Lemley notched career highs on beam (9.900) to tie for second in the event.

Arizona travels to Gainesville, Fla., Friday night to take on the No. 5 Florida Gators.
