Wildcats' Polk, Wheeler named to All-Pac-10 team

Arizona women's basketball players Shawntinice Polk and Dee-Dee Wheeler were named to this year's All-Pac-10 team yesterday by Pacific 10 Conference coaches. The award is the second for both players.

A 6-foot-5 sophomore center, Polk averaged 16.4 points, 10.2 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game for the Wildcats this season en route to winning three Pac-10 Player of the Week awards.

Wheeler, a 5-foot-6 guard, led the Wildcats in scoring (17.7 per game), assists (4.7) and steals (2.9).

Stanford's Nicole Powell was named Pac-10 Player of the Year and is a member of the All-Pac-10 team for the fourth time. Powell led the conference in points (20.1) and rebounds (11.4) during the regular season.

Also on the All-Pac-10 team are Washington guard Giuliana Mendiola and center Andrea Lalum, UCLA guards Noelle Quinn and Nikki Blue, Southern California forward Ebony Hoffman, California guard Nihan Anaz and Arizona State guard Kylan Loney.

UA forward Shannon Hobson received an honorable mention for the Pac-10 All-Freshman team. Hobson, who has started in Arizona's last 11 games, averaged 4.1 points and 2.2 rebounds per game this season.

Quinn received this season's Pac-10 Freshman of the Year honor.

California's Caren Horstmeyer was the recipient of the Pac-10 Coach of the Year award. Horstmeyer led the Golden Bears to an 11-16 overall record and 4-14 record in the conference.
