This week's winners and losers

A bomb ÷ moving graduation outside. We don't even know if Bush is coming to the UA yet, and we don't think changing the ceremony around is going to sway whether he comes to Arizona. If he does decide to come here, great; but already, grandmothers are forced to sit out in the sun for three hours and bake for maybe no other reason than to "experiment."

The bomb ÷ to the ASUA president-elect, Alistair Chapman. It was a long, tough campaign thanks to surprise presidential contender Josh Shapiro. He put up a commendable fight that deserves to be praised. However strong a candidate he was, Shapiro panicked too soon in making a deal that was the wrong move to make this late in the game when the proper research couldn't be done.

A bomb ÷ to President Bush using images of Sept. 11 in his campaign ads. Come on, we all know he was the president during those troubling times and how well he handled it. He doesn't need to shamelessly abuse those images to simply further his political career. We should certainly remember what happened and commemorate those who lost their lives, but not use them to run a political campaign that will only cheapen and degrade an event that is still so close to so many hearts.

The bomb ÷ to the women's softball team going 21-0 so far this season. They have done it with great play, earning three straight Pac-10 Player of the Week and two Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week awards. If they keep this up, they'll have a great shot at bringing home another championship.

A bomb ÷ the best actor award. OK, we agree that Sean Penn is a great actor and he deserved an Oscar for several of his previous movies. But his performance in "Mystic River" was not amazing. Bill Murray or Johnny Depp were much more deserving ÷ based on the performances for which they were nominated, not for their collected works. Of course, the Oscars are more of a popularity contest anyway, so who really cares?

The bomb ÷ spring training has started. One of the best times to be in Tucson has begun with the first games of spring training opening yesterday. Of course, it was really cold and wet, which are reasons why teams don't train in their home cities, but now is the time that we can bask in the joy that is Major League Baseball.
