Wildcats try to put last week's rout by LSU behind them

Arizona football is done dwelling on its poor performance against Louisiana State last weekend, and is now pondering how to respond to the 59-13 blowout.

It might be a lot easier to forget a game like the one the Wildcats played last weekend when they have an even more important game coming up.

"This game is important for a lot of reasons," senior tackle Brandon Phillips said. "One, it's our first Pac-10 game and it is the most important of the ones we've played so far, and we'll (also) find out how our team reacts to some adversity." [Read article]

photo Athlete of the week: Stephanie Butkus digs cats' a pair of wins

Stephanie Butkus came to the UA with the hopes of one day playing a major role in the future of Wildcat volleyball. With those aspirations came the challenge of filling the shoes of the graduated Laurie Gardner, the former Wildcat starting setter.

Seven games into Arizona's season, Butkus has already made an impact as the team's starting setter. This weekend at the McKale Center, she played an instrumental role in two Wildcat victories as Arizona split a four-game weekend series in the Wildcat Classic. [Read article]

UW's Pickett earns Player of the Week

Washington quarterback Cody Pickett was named Pacific-10 Conference Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts on Saturday.

Pickett completed 18 of 26 passes for 290 yards and three touchdowns in leading the Huskies to a 38-13 win over Indiana. The UW offense notched 490 total yards in the victory, while converting 10-of-16 third-down opportunities. [Read article]

Women's golf set to tee off for 2003

Last year, the Arizona women's golf team went into the NCAA Fall Preview skeptical about their chances. They lost Lorena Ochoa, arguably the best college golfer in history to the LPGA, and had two freshmen rounding out their starting five.

Little did head coach Greg Allen know that one of his players would follow in Ochoa's footsteps, winning NCAA Freshman of the Year and Golfweek Player of the Year honors, along with two tournaments and a handful of top tens. [Read article]
