UW's Pickett earns Player of the Week

Washington quarterback Cody Pickett was named Pacific-10 Conference Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts on Saturday.

Pickett completed 18 of 26 passes for 290 yards and three touchdowns in leading the Huskies to a 38-13 win over Indiana. The UW offense notched 490 total yards in the victory, while converting 10-of-16 third-down opportunities.

Linebacker Will Derting of Washington State earned the honor on the defensive side of the ball after recording 12 tackles, three sacks and a forced fumble during the team's 29-26 overtime loss to Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind.

Special teams honors went to punter Tom Malone of Southern California, who punted six times for an average of 52.0 yards during the Trojans' 35-18 win over Brigham Young. Five of Malone's six punts traveled more than 50 yards each.

Arizona safety Darrel Brooks was nominated for his play against Louisiana State. Brooks picked up 13 tackles, 11 solo, and an interception for the Wildcats in their 59-13 loss at home to the Tigers.

Pac-10 preview

· Oregon at Arizona; Saturday, 7 p.m., TBS

The Wildcats return to national television ÷ and TBS ÷ this week against the visiting Ducks of Oregon. Arizona's 59-13 loss last weekend to LSU was also broadcasted nationally on the Superstation. Play-by-play tandem Ron Thulin and Charles Davis will cover the game from the booth, while sideline reporters Craig Sager and Erin Andrews will see the action from the sidelines.

More than 40,000 are expected to attend the game on Armed Forces Appreciation Night at Arizona Stadium (capacity 56,002).

Oregon took its first two games at home, defeating Mississippi State 42-34 two weeks ago and downing Nevada, 31-23, on Saturday.

· Utah State at No. 16 Arizona State; Saturday, 7 p.m.

ASU junior quarterback and Heisman Trophy candidate Andrew Walter threw four touchdowns during the Sun Devils 34-14 win over Division I-AA Northern Arizona. The heavily favored Sun Devils scored 27 unanswered points after trailing 7-0 early.

ASU looks to roll over the Aggies of Utah State, who are making their third straight appearance on the road. The Aggies dropped their first two contests, falling to in-state rival Utah, 40-20, in week one before being defeated by Nebraska, 31-7, on Saturday.

· Washington St. at No. 17 Colorado; Saturday, 12:30 p.m.

Colorado looks to continue its winning ways Saturday against Washington State, a week after rallying to knock off UCLA, 16-14, at home.

The 2-0 Buffaloes take on a Cougar team that lost a 29-26 stunner to Notre Dame in overtime.

· Tucson one of top 20 college sports towns

Sports Illustrated On Campus has released its rankings of the top 20 college sports towns in the nation, citing Madison, Wis. (University of Wisconsin) at the top of the list.

While Tucson (University of Arizona) came in at No. 19 overall, two other Pac-10 cities made the list ÷ Eugene, Ore. (University of Oregon) came in at No. 7 while Berkeley, Calif. (UC Berkeley) came in at No. 13.
