Students lobbying for fee run polls

As voting began yesterday on a student fee referendum, some of the people managing polling booths on campus were the same students who have spent recent weeks lobbying for the fee's passage.

However, of about 10 voters questioned during a half hour near student union polling places, only two said the fee supporters' presence unnerved them, and student government officials defended the poll workers' objectivity.

The Associated Students of the University of Arizona elections code prohibits campaigning within 75 feet of an established polling place. [Read article]

Campus community celebrates cultural diversity with ÎOne Love'

The voices of performers echoed through the crowded auditorium of the Modern Languages building Friday night, where people of many ethnicities, ages and interests gathered for the third annual "One Love Multicultural Showcase."

The event, organized by Theta Nu Xi Multicultural Sorority and the Baha'i Association, showed an audience of more than 350 the diversity and talent of people around campus.

"Diversity is important because in the United States people come together from all different parts of the world. And it's just important to recognize · and appreciate that," said one of the Persian dance performers, management and information systems senior Parisa Rouhani. [Read article]
