The ASUA Senate approved last night increases for the 2004-2005 stipends for next year's appointed

positions.

The total amount of money allocated to stipends for next year is $74,350. Last year, the total amount was $70,800.

The increase in stipends was attributed to the creation of a new marketing director position for each of the branches. The position was given $1,200 because the job will require 15 hours per week. The usual stipend amount for a 10-hour-per-week position is $800.

"We didn't want to start too high or too low," said Jordan Miller, administrative vice president-elect.

Associated Students of the University of Arizona Sen. Jacob Reuben expressed concerns that stipends were increasing too quickly. But he said he thinks the stipends are good this year.

"I think we got them right this year," he said. "It's good."

The ASUA Senate approved the Appropriations Board Consent Agenda for $639.99 in special funding for three clubs.

The Undergraduate Sociology Club received $267.84 to hold its social science research conference featuring David Snow from University of California, Irvine, on April 24 in the Social Sciences building, Room 415.

To help promote the event, the board decided to double its Fast Copy request from $4.42 to $8.84.

The Capoeira Club requested $456.15 but only received $256.15 to host its fourth Batizado e Troca de Cord‹oes from April 27 to May 1.

The amount was adjusted after the board realized the club had received a $200 grant from the Center for Student Involvement and Leadership.

Students Against Sweatshops received $116 for its book tour presentation by Marisol Enyart and Alma Rose Silva-Ba–uelos on April 22.

The ASUA Senate also approved the selection of Kenneth Marsh as the

recipient for the Charles "Bumps" Tribolet ASUA service award.

Marsh has been a professional mental health provider for more than 30 years at the UA and is the Counseling and Psychological Services Unit director at Campus Health Service.

He has provided mental health intervention, regardless of the time of day, for the homicides at the College of Medicine, the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, and suicide and deaths among the student community.

There will be a free Zona Zoo spring training football game tailgate party Saturday from noon to 2 p.m. on the UA Mall. At the tailgate, students will be able to meet the new football coach, Mike Stoops, and vote on next year's Zona Zoo shirt design.

Free Eegee's, subs and drinks will be given out. Free bottle openers will be given to Zona Zoo members.

Troy's Bucket will play at the event, along with S.O.L.

J.P. Benedict, ASUA president, encouraged the senators to support the tailgate.
