A student was arrested on weapons charges after he threatened other students with box cutters in Coronado Residence Hall, 822 E. Fifth St., on Sunday, reports stated.

The student said he felt threatened when three students, two of whom shared a common bedroom, were trying to push open his door. The student had entered the other students' room and pulled down a mattress and knocked over trash cans, reports stated.

The student said two of the three students pushing the door open, whom he said were friends, had embarrassed him earlier while speaking with some girls. His friends had told the girls some embarrassing stories about the student and he decided to retaliate, reports stated.

When the students entered their room and saw the overturned mattress and knocked over trash cans, they attempted to enter the student's room. The student thought they were going to come in and beat him up, reports stated.

The three students who were trying to push the door open said the student was holding the door closed. When they pushed it open, he was holding the box cutters in a threatening manner, reports stated.

When officers arrived, they found two 4-inch box cutters that the student said he used for a previous job. Police also saw instant messages on his computer screen that referred to getting rid of the box cutters, reports stated.

The student was charged with a weapons possession charge. The box cutters were placed into evidence.
