ÎOn the Spot' hardly funny, pretty Îbland'

I was reading "On the Spot" by Nathan Tafoya today, and well, I finally realized something. There is literally no point to such an article. It doesn't make me laugh, it doesn't give me some new outlook on an issue, and it's not a good conversation article or even an article that makes sense. So please, help me out here: What exactly is supposed to be going on with "On the Spot?" I can see that it is introducing the UA community to some of its members, giving light to people's random quirks. I can easily respect something that acquaints the masses with everyday people, but where is the heart in "On the Spot?" It is just so bland and boring. photo Students are the real foundation of UA

Up until now, our loyal alumni were the only ones who could donate to our wonderful school.

Now, thanks to the efforts of the Alumni Foundation, the Dean of Students office and the Associated Students of the University of Arizona, students have an avenue of their own, a way to give back before we graduate and move on.

These three groups are pooling their efforts to create a new student foundation to complement the Alumni Foundation, which just put the finishing touch on a $1 billion fun-raising effort. [Read article]

Humans may be responsible for desert's drought

The rain that soaked the UA area last week provided a nice reprieve from this fall's dry conditions. But climatologists say it wasn't enough to pull us out of a drought that has plagued the entire Southwest region for the past several years.

Gregg Garfin of the UA's Institute for the Study of Planet Earth was quoted in Thursday's Arizona Daily Star as saying that some areas have built up a 20-inch rainfall deficit during the drought. Given that the Tucson area averages only 11 inches of rain per year, we would need nearly two years worth of rainfall to make up the deficit. [Read article]
