Official: Stoops not top choice
The UA athletic department yesterday contradicted recent reports naming Oklahoma co-defensive coordinator Mike Stoops as the top candidate to permanently fill the football team's head coaching position.
There are no leading candidates, said Rocky LaRose, senior associate director of athletics and head of the search committee seeking coaching candidates.
"We've not ranked the coaches in any way," LaRose said. "We're talking to all the people that are on our list and trying to decipher interests on both sides."

Glass killing UA record book
Kim Glass is shattering so many school volleyball records that it seems she can't go a week without breaking one.
Actually, for the second week in a row, she should break one - well, a lot more than one.
With 545 kills so far this year, the sophomore outside hitter's own school record for kills in a season, 556, is very much within reach this weekend with a pair of matches. Last weekend, after recording a season-low seven kills against Oregon, Glass rebounded to tally 28 kills against Oregon State the following night. It marked her 15th match this season with 20 or more kills - a school record.

Cats add NAU match on one week's notice
To make its quest to finish above .500 a little easier, the UA volleyball team added on a week's notice a home match with Northern Arizona on the same day the men's basketball team hosts the Lumberjacks.
Yesterday, Arizona head coach Dave Rubio announced that the No. 25 Wildcats (14-13, 8-8 Pacific 10 Conference) added NAU (13-14, 7-7 Big Sky Conference) to their schedule for a match Monday at 10:30 a.m. in McKale Center. Admission to the game is free.

UA preps for ASU rivalry
Arizona has an extra week to prepare for in-state rival Arizona State. That extra week might allow the Wildcats to build up more animosity for the Sun Devils.
Immediately following last weekend's loss to No. 2 USC, the talk in the locker room moved from the team's performance against the Trojans to the season finale with Arizona State.
"We still have one big game to play," interim head coach Mike Hankwitz said. "If we can win that game, it will be a tremendous finish because of the significance of the game, and it's a great rivalry."
