This week's winners ... and losers

The Bomb ÷ The deadline extension for potential ASUA candidates to register. It's nice that students are being encouraged to participate in student government ÷ though it's a little disheartening that they seem to need this much prodding.

A Bomb ÷ Those who have become too dependent on the GRO. Apparently, law schools don't overlook any grades, good or bad, GRO or no GRO. Too many students seem to be using the system as a crutch rather than a second chance.

The Bomb ÷ Recycle Mania! OK, it's not as exciting as it sounds, but Residence Life should be applauded for keeping this tradition going. Whether you're an environmentalist or not, recycling is easy and just plain common sense.

A Bomb ÷ The Howard Dean gaffe, part II. This time, his top adviser resigned after being demoted by Dean. Then Dean decided not to spend any money in the seven states that hold primaries or caucuses Tuesday. Dean will find himself screeching again once he realizes he's totally irrelevant come Super Tuesday.

The Bomb ÷ U.S. weapons inspector David Kay's frank and thorough report. He made it clear that President Bush was given faulty information by the CIA regarding weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. When will Bush ever get around to firing CIA director George Tenet?

A Bomb ÷ Cell phones going off in class. If it happens once, it's understandable. But there's no excuse for multiple occurrences in one class session. Cell phones themselves aren't disruptive, but some of their owners unfortunately are.

The Bomb ÷ UA men's basketball star Andre Iguodala was named to the Wooden top 30 list, while UA women's hoops standout Shawntinice Polk made the Wooden top 20 list. Both are outstanding athletes and are well-deserving of the honor.

A Bomb ÷ NASA's problems with the Spirit rover on Mars. This doesn't inspire a lot of confidence in Americans that NASA will be ready for a manned expedition to the Red Planet anytime soon.

The Bomb ÷ With her movie, "Lost in Translation," Sofia Coppola became the third woman Oscar-nominated for best director. The film was also nominated for best screenplay. We do, however, find it a little disturbing that she's dating Bill Murray.
