Cancer Center enrolls runners, walkers for Cinco de Mayo 10K

The Arizona Cancer Center is inviting walkers and runners of all ages and fitness levels to participate in this year's preparation for the Cinco de Mayo 10K event scheduled for May 2.

The center started the Better Than Ever program as a pre-training course for the Bobbi Olson Half Marathon in December as part of the Tucson Marathon. BTE participants raise funds for research in women's cancers at the Arizona Cancer Center.

This version of BTE is offering training and preparation for the race in May. More information can be found on the Web site at azcc.arizona.edu/BTE/10k/teammate-10k.htm. Training for the Cinco de Mayo 10K begins March 1. The race registration deadline is March 10.

UA scientist sheds new light with Hubble Space Telescope

Uranus and Neptune aren't the identical egg-blue twins they appear to be in natural color, according to NASA Hubble Space Telescope images released today.

Erich Karkoschka of the UA Lunar and Planetary Laboratory used different color filters on Hubble's Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph and the Advanced Camera for Surveys for the observations, taken in August 2003.

"I took extraordinary care that the natural-color images are very close to what a human would see from a spacecraft near these planets," Karkoschka said.

The Space Telescope Science Institute, which released the Uranus and Neptune images two weeks ago, has electronic image files and more information online at hubblesite.org/news/2004/05.
