The Arizona men's club lacrosse team gets another shot at a still-fresh rivalry this weekend in Southern California.
The Laxcats (4-2) meet No. 14 UC-San Diego in La Jolla, Calif., Sunday at 1 p.m. and will try to avenge themselves against a Triton team that crushed their playoff hopes two seasons ago.
"We've got some paying back to do," said Arizona senior goaltender Greg Abdouch.
The Laxcats clash heads with the two schools representing San Diego in the West Coast Lacrosse League in their first road trip of the season.
Arizona begins the weekend against San Diego State tomorrow at 1 p.m.
The Laxcats' focus of the weekend will be Triton junior attacker Nick Dean, who is considered one of the best at his position in the conference.
UCSD will try to run fast breaks with Dean and sophomore attacker Chris McCall.
The Laxcats expect to play a team game to prevent the two threats. Defensive discipline was emphasized throughout practice this week.
"The best defense is a good offense," said senior attacker Dave Sherman.
Ball movement will be key in both games, as Arizona prepared with double sessions this week to analyze the defensive personnel of both squads.
"It's always difficult to play two games back to back like this," said junior defenseman Carson Parmelee.
Following the weekend, the Laxcats take a five-day break before preparing for a game against No. 22 Chapman in Tucson March 25.
