Softball Notes: Cats show wild side against ASU
The No. 2 Arizona softball team showed both sides of its Jekyll and Hyde offense at home against ASU over the weekend.
The Wildcats (33-6, 7-4 Pacific 10 Conference) needed five innings and a wild pitch to pull even with the Sun Devils (26-18, 1-11) in Friday night's 3-1 win at Hillenbrand Stadium.
With ASU ahead 1-0, Arizona senior third baseman Jackie Coburn plated junior left fielder Autumn Champion with a single in the bottom of the fifth against re-inserted starter Katie Burkhardt.

Golfers take third at Pac-10s
Men's team fails to win back-to-back crowns
The Arizona men's golf team was unable to take its second Pacific 10 Conference championship in a row yesterday in Walla Walla, Wash., finishing in third place despite rising on the team leaderboard on each day of the tournament.
Senior Nathan Lashley shot a two-under 69 in the final round to finish with a seven-under 277, one stroke behind individual champion Erik Olson of Washington.

Commentary: APR must change baseball standards
The words "student" and "athlete" never used to belong in the same sentence.
The recently released Academic Progress Rate looks to make the "student" part as important as the "athlete" part in college athletics.
The APR is meant to improve educational standards by requiring a minimum number of athletes per team to graduate and stay academically eligible.
Each athlete earns two points: one for remaining at the school on pace to graduate and another for staying academically eligible and ultimately graduating.
