A fire broke out yesterday afternoon in two students' apartment, causing $20,000 worth of damage, according to the Tucson Fire Department.

The fire is believed to have started by a candle left burning in the two UA students' upstairs apartment at Palm Shadows Apartment complex, 1815 E. Speedway Blvd.

Tucson Fire Department Capt. Paul McDonough said the fire started around 2:30 p.m. and was under control within seven minutes of TFD's arrival. [Read article]

The No. 18 UA soccer team struck first against Pepperdine yesterday but couldn't hold down their lead, falling 3-1 in Malibu, Calif.

The administration's decision to make safety sessions offered at orientation voluntary brings into question the sincerity of the UA's claim that student safety is a top priority.

After failing to renew a program grant, these informative sessions, which can be seen as an extension of student safety, were for the first time made voluntary. As a result, attendance dropped by 85 percent.
