Soccer claims home opener
Cats defeat Missouri, lose to Pepperdine after first-half lead
The No. 18 UA soccer team struck first against Pepperdine yesterday but couldn't hold down their lead, falling 3-1 in Malibu, Calif.
"We certainly did a good job for the first 20 minutes, but for whatever reason we just didn't play well after that first 20 minutes," said Arizona head coach Dan Tobias.
Freshman forward London King scored her first goal in a Wildcat uniform in the seventh minute. King put in a rebound off a Jennifer Klein shot that clanged off the post.

Gaub's Gospel: For UA fans, Stoops name instills hope
Stoops.
If there is any one name that people in Tucson would associate with Arizona football, this would be it. Half the people you talk to couldn't tell you how to spell Kovalcheck, and most people couldn't tell you half of the starters on defense.

Marching band's practice schedule rivals athletics
They've been preparing for weeks in the hot desert sun, making sure their execution looks perfect in time for the season opener.
They've gone through physically exhausting two-a-day and sometimes three-a-day practices to make sure everyone's on the right page when the crowd first roars.
They even hope to go to a bowl game for the first time in years.

Red Team sweeps final preseason scrimmage
A little roster shuffling during the week didn't change the result in the No. 17 Arizona women's volleyball team's final Red-Blue scrimmage Saturday in McKale Center.
With sophomore setter Amy Dyck wearing crimson, senior outside hitter Kim Glass again showed good form in the Red Team's four-game victory, 30-27, 30-27, 30-25, 11-15.
Dyck led both teams with 47 assists - a week after notching 32 for the Blue Team in a four-game loss - and Glass finished with her second straight double-double (14 kills, 11 digs).
