UA to host first Constitution Week

In honor of the newly created Constitution Day mandated by federal law, the UA is hosting Constitution Week today through Wednesday.

The UA's first-ever Constitution Week will feature a series of Constitution-related events around campus.

A display of the Constitution will be located in the foyer of the UofA Bookstore at the Student Union Memorial Center for students to view throughout the week.

The James E. Rogers College of Law will hold a panel discussion titled "Clerks for the Court" moderated by Associate Director of Academic Enrichment Randy Wagner.

Charles Ares, Michael Meehan and RonNell Andersen Jones, all of whom have served as clerks for the Supreme Court, will serve as panelists. The event is open to all UA students and will take place Tuesday in Room 140 of the College of Law.

In addition, professor Suzanne Cummins of the Eller College of Management's department of management and policy will give a talk titled "Negotiating the Constitution - Without a Camera in the Room" Wednesday at noon in the Gallagher Theater. The event is part of the Faculty Fellow Series.

The UA Web site will also feature a link to the federal Constitution Day Web site, which will allow students and faculty to view pages related to the history and present-day importance of the Constitution. Constitution Day, which will be observed nationwide Saturday was created to observe Sept. 17, 1789, when members of the Constitutional Convention signed the final draft of the U.S. Constitution.

Group seeks to find friends for international students at the UA

International Friends is looking for community volunteers to be "friendship partners" for international students who have arrived at the UA for the fall semester.

International Friends is not a live-in hosting program. Students and their International Friends "partners" get together, usually once a month, to share a meal, explore the Tucson area or observe holidays or traditional celebrations.

Community members who are interested in international understanding and willing to exchange customs and ideas in a respectful relationship can visit the International Friends Web site (http://ifriends.web.arizona.edu/) to download an application, call 621-4627 or e-mail ifriends@email.arizona.edu, and one will be sent to you.

International Friends Inc. is a non-profit, community-based program that brings together residents of the Tucson community and international students attending the UA for purposes of friendship, learning and sharing.

Campus hosts public asthma forum today

Every three seconds, someone in the United States experiences an asthma attack. In Arizona 360,000 people have asthma.

In an effort to spread awareness and education regarding this widespread disease, the American Lung Association of Arizona is hosting "Living With Asthma Night" tonight from 5:30 to 7.

The event will take place in Room 408-10 in the Meinel Optical Sciences building, 1630 E. University Blvd., at the southeast corner of Cherry Avenue and the UA Mall. The association's Lung Health Programs Director Donna Bryson as well as members of the University Medical Center's respiratory department Dr. Theresa Guilbert and Marty Reimer, will sit on an experts panel that will answer questions from the public.

The American Lung Association of Arizona in Tucson is a non-profit organization dedicated to working with the community to increase awareness, education and research that seeks to find a cure for asthma.
