A student is given a Discman and a CD then asked to opine on each song

Reviewer bio:

  • family studies and human

  • development senior

  • favorite artist: Prince

  • least favorite band: They Might Be Giants ("'Cause I saw them a few weeks ago and it was so horrible I had to leave.")

    1. Modest Mouse – "Ocean Breathes Salty"

It would be a good song just to play in your room and listen to. You could clean or do your homework. Not quite like a dance beat, but a good song. I'd buy the CD and check out the band a little more.

    2. Nelly feat. Christina Aguilera – "Tilt Ya Head Back"

"This song is real jazzy and funky. It's a lot like Prince's new stuff actually. It's cool. I think it's a good song. The girl has a nice voice and it's probably another CD I'd buy and check out. She just has a strong, nice voice. It's funky but kind of hip-hop, too. You could definitely dance to it."

    3. Keane – "Somewhere Only We Know"

"It's just not my type of music. I wouldn't probably like to buy the CD. It's just too calm and I don't like his voice very much. I don't think it's pleasant really. It's not the worst. It kind of reminds me of that band ...crap, I forgot what they're called ... what is that guy's name? ... (To Wildcat) What's that guy's name who wore tight clothes and he died of AIDS and he sings "We are the champions"?

    Wildcat: Oh. Queen?

Beca: "Yeah. It kind of reminds me of Queen, but not such a distinctive voice, but a little bit like Queen." (Time lapses) "The song's over. I just didn't think it was catchy."

    4. The Streets - "Dry Your Eye"

"For song four, he has a cute little accent. It's kind of hard to understand him when he talks though. He talks part of the song, then sings part of it. I don't really care for this song too much because I think he talks too much. The only part he sings is in the chorus. The rest, he's just telling you a story. Not really a song. And his accent was a just a little bit much, too."
