Freshman goalkeeper rewrites record books
Arizona freshman goalkeeper McCall Smith wasn't around for any of the UA soccer program's 10 losing seasons.
She wasn't yet a Wildcat, not around to experience the "success" that was the UA program's six wins of a year ago, and couldn't experience the excitement of not losing to Arizona State - the schools tied instead - for the first time ever.

Knauer's Korner: Debating the real issues... of UA sports
With Election Day approaching and the candidates having polished their final scripts, debate season is officially in full swing. In a world of innumerable facts, fictions and trivial Top 10 lists, sports fans can already count themselves well adapted.
So, as a Wildcat and a registered voter, it seems downright bipartisan of me to address and argue a few issues concerning the fall UA sports schedule that still may circulate through the minds of undecided students.

Women's tennis hires Stanford assistant
The UA women's tennis team gained championship experience this week with the hiring of assistant coach Brian Ramirez.
Ramirez, hired Monday by Arizona, spent the last two years serving as the volunteer assistant for Stanford. The Cardinal won last season's National Championship as well as consecutive Pac-10 Championships.
"He's probably the best assistant coach we've ever had, or at least I've had and it's my third one in four years," head coach Vicky Maes said. "I'm very excited to work with him knowing the experience he's had being one of the key factors in the Stanford program and knowing what a great tradition that program has in winning.
