Tucson author David Hardy last night said filmmaker Michael Moore manipulated facts and constantly contradicted himself in his movie "Fahrenheit 9/11."

Hardy, co-author of "Michael Moore Is A Big Fat Stupid White Man," said Moore has stretched the truth in the movie, and in some cases even lied.

"When ideas have potential to influence, the truth has to be said," Hardy said.

He wants to present misconceptions about the facts displayed in "Fahrenheit 9/11" to the public so people don't blindly follow Moore.

"The proper cure for abuse of speech is more speech," Hardy said.

Hardy said "Fahrenheit 9/11," shows George W. Bush allowing the bin Laden family and Saudi nationals to travel in an airplane shortly after the Sept. 11 attacks when commercial flights were not in operation.

Hardy said the 9/11 Commission, which has fully investigated the terrorist attack, concluded in the final report there was no evidence that the flight even took place.

"Literally, you can't count on anything this guy says," Hardy said.

Hardy alluded to a part in "Fahrenheit 9/11" when a headline flashed across the screen reading "Recount shows Gore won election."

He said the headline wasn't from a news story as the movie made it seem, but from a letter to an editor.

"Moore is great at juxtaposing images," Hardy said.

Hardy said in addition to manipulating facts about the Bush administration, Moore lives a lifestyle that is hypocritical.

"Moore dislikes wealthy, white, American males but that is exactly what he is," Hardy said.

Hardy said he considers himself libertarian and said Moore speaks values of liberalism but lives the opposite.

Instead of donating profits to a good cause, Hardy said Moore lives like the people he detests.

Moore has made millions in movies, videos, DVDs, books and speaking across the country, Hardy said. He also mentioned the $27,500 Moore will be receiving from ticket sales at UA on Oct. 11.

Hardy said Moore will make 1.6 million dollars alone from speaking to students in his "Slacker Uprising Tour."

Hardy said Moore is promoting John Kerry, but ironically, he is making more money on his tour than Kerry would make in fours years in office.

Hardy said he will be voting for Bush in the election.

"It's nice sometimes to vote for a person who has a chance of winning," he said.

Hardy said it is hard to critique Kerry because of his flip-flopping.

"He has more positions than the Kama Sutra," he said.

Nick Borst, an economics freshman, said he doesn't think students will listen to Moore without considering the other side.

"Students are critical thinkers," Borst said.

Borst said people who listen to Moore are anti-Bush already and are just reinforcing their views.

"I think he is mostly just preaching to the choir," he said.

Elizabeth Pietsch, a third year pharmacy student, said she will never watch another Michael Moore film because they are so skewed.

"Moore is one-sided and blatantly expresses his opinion," she said.
