Football: Kovalcheck tabbed for first start against Bears
Coaches choose frosh to face No. 7 California
With the Wildcats struggling to put points on the board and the UA offense unable to consistently move the ball downfield, UA head football coach Mike Stoops announced yesterday that it's time for a change.
"As of right now we'll give Richard (Kovalcheck) an opportunity to start Saturday, at least give him a half to see what he can do," Stoops said.

Football: Stoops tested by off-field issues
Inheriting a team that won just two of 12 games a year ago, UA head football coach Mike Stoops surely expected to go down his share of rocky roads on the playing field this season.
The UA football program's off-field saga began when incoming freshman McCollins Umeh collapsed and died during a summer workout, and the drama has not yet subsided.
In the wake of a 1-5 overall record and three consecutive losses to open conference play, Stoops has been forced to turn some of his attention away from game preparation, and toward off-the-field troubles that have plagued his team as of late.

A Slice of Bacon: Should Mike Bibby be the one?
The UA athletic department's decision last week to retire Mike Bibby's jersey raises one simple question - why only three?
Bibby's famous number 10 will be raised to the rafters with the likes of Sean Elliot and Steve Kerr on November 11, following the conclusion of the exhibition game against Sonoma State.
The athletic department decided to honor Bibby because he falls in the guidelines that say, "Only student-athletes who were recognized as national athletes of the year or received a major national 'athlete of the year' honor are eligible for their jersey to be retired."
