Majors switching to in-person registration

Departments try to combat cuts in budgets, classes

Editor's Note: This is the first in a three-part series on class registration.

Although class registration is still in progress, many students registered for classes weeks ago with their advisers instead of via WebReg because budget cuts and other factors are forcing departments to regulate registration more closely.

Jerry Hogle, vice provost of instruction, said high-demand departments, such as political science and theatre arts, are manually registering students for their core classes this semester rather than using WebReg. [Read article]

Issue of the Week: The higher education bill photo

On Oct. 30, 2003, Rep. Phil English of Pennsylvania introduced the Higher Education Affordability and Equity Act to Congress. This act, if passed into law, would help students afford undergraduate and graduate educations. On Oct. 20, graduate students across the country wrote letters to Congress in order for this bill to be passed.

In response to this the issue of the week is whether or not the HEAEA should be passed and, additionally, are students entitled to such benefits as proposed in this act? [Read article]

Sun Devils sweep Icecats with 4-2 win

A loss is never a team's ultimate goal, but the UA Icecats have plenty of positives to take from last night's 4-2 defeat at the hands of Arizona State at Tucson Convention Center.

"We can build on what we did today, that's what we're looking for," UA head coach Leo Golembiewski said after the team's second defeat in as many days.

The Icecats showed ASU a new look one night after the same Sun Devil squad beat them 8-1, as defenseman D.J. Pelletier, left wing David Cwik, and goaltender Bryan Aronchick made their first starts. [Read article]

Jimmy Eat World exploded onto the national music scene when "The Middle" hit "TRL" in 2001 and stayed in rotation on VH1 for a couple more years. Since then, life hasn't been quite the same for guitarist Tom Linton.
