A student reported a suspicious man who approached and asked for a hug outside of Arizona-Sonora Residence Hall, 910 E. Fifth St., Jan. 24 between 12:30 a.m. and 1 a.m., reports stated.

The student said she was standing by herself when a man in a gray hooded sweatshirt approached her, reports stated.

She told police the man seemed intoxicated, reports stated.

When the man asked her for a hug, she said no repeatedly until the man walked away, reports stated.

The woman said the man might have fit the description of a rapist from three years ago, reports stated.

She said she wanted to report the incident and said it was likely the man was just an intoxicated student, reports stated.

A student reported a woman assaulted her in the Student Union Memorial Center, 1303 E. University Blvd., Jan. 24 at 4:41 p.m., reports stated.

The student told police she was sitting at a table when the woman approached her from behind, pulled her out of the chair by her backpack and struck her two or three times in the face, reports stated.

The student told police the woman was upset with information she told the woman's boyfriend, reports stated.

The student's cheek was flushed, but she suffered no other injuries, reports stated.

When police contacted the woman, she said the student came after her, which was why she struck her, reports stated.

A student was arrested for underage drinking after police spotted him and another man hiding behind a car at 2:23 p.m. Jan. 24, reports stated.

Police approached the car they were hiding behind and the student and the man ran toward the La Aldea apartment complex, 825 E. Fifth St., reports stated.

Police found the student inside La Aldea, and said he was breathing heavily and had a strong odor of intoxicants on his breath, reports stated.

The student told police he ran because he didn't want to get in trouble, reports stated.

Police said the student told them he was drinking a bottle of beer and his friend "gave me one at Park Student Union and we were drinking there, then you saw us and we ran," reports stated.

The student told police he did not know where his friend was or where he lived, reports stated.

The student was referred to the diversion program and was released at the scene, reports stated.

Fraternity members of Kappa Sigma, 1423 E. First St., reported four white males in a Ford Excursion pulled up to the fraternity Jan. 24, yelled profanity and initiated a fight with baseball bats, reports stated.

One fraternity member said when the car pulled up at 8:53 p.m., he heard someone yell "fuck you," reports stated.

A second fraternity member heard someone yell "fuck you," and said his friend replied, "Excuse me?" and someone in the car yelled, "What? You wanna fight?" reports stated.

A third fraternity member said two rear passengers in the Ford Excursion exited the car while yelling at fraternity members and then got back into the car, reports stated.

Several fraternity members told police they saw the Ford Excursion head westbound on North First Street, reports stated. They said the men in the car were outnumbered so they left, reports stated.

Police were able to stop a car that matched the description of the Ford Excursion, reports stated.

The men in the car said fraternity members initiated the fight, reports stated.

Both parties want to press charges, and police are still investigating the incident, reports stated.

A woman was arrested Tuesday for giving false information to a police officer and failing to produce identification, reports stated.

At 10:30 p.m., police noticed a woman riding a bicycle that did not have a required headlight, reports stated.

When police asked the woman to stop, the woman ignored the request and continued riding her bicycle, reports stated.

Police yelled "police, stop" and "police, stop, come here," and the woman stopped riding, reports stated.

Police informed the woman she did not have the required headlight for riding a bicycle at night, and the woman said she was not aware of it, reports stated.

Police asked the woman to show identification and the woman said, "This is ridiculous and I'm not going to give you any information, I'm leaving," reports stated.

Police told the woman she was not going anywhere until she showed identification, reports stated.

The woman said she did not have identification with her, so she gave police her name but not date of birth, reports stated.

Police did not find any record with the information she gave, reports stated.

Police said if she did not provide some type of positive identification, they would take her to jail, reports stated.

The woman admitted she gave a false middle name, lied about her birth date and said her license was issued in New Jersey when it was in fact from New York, reports stated.

The woman was cited and released at the scene.
