The Arizona men and women's track teams head to Seattle this weekend, where they look to continue their recent success at the University of Washington's Husky Invitational.
The Wildcats take on a variety of teams from the Pacific 10 Conference, including in-state rival ASU, Stanford and Oregon.
Though the teams have been successful lately, Arizona head coach Fred Harvey said there's always room to develop further.
"We always want to make sure that we keep them grounded in the sense that the performances are great," Harvey said. "But there's still so much more room for improvement."
This marks the fourth-straight weekend the teams are on the road. To counteract all the traveling, Harvey said he rotates his athletes to keep them fresh.
"We take certain individuals, and we won't travel them on particular weekends," he said.
Staying close to home helps as well, he said.
"Keeping the distance down makes a big difference," Harvey said. "We're not traveling over to the East Coast, or anything of that sort."
Freshman Steve MacGregor, who narrowly missed qualifying for the NCAA Championships in the high-jump last weekend, agreed that all the traveling can get tiring ¬¬– another problem in itself.
"The jet lag (is bad), and I can't sleep in hotel rooms," he said. "After the weekend, I'm just drained."
The Wildcats do not have a home meet until March 5, something MacGregor says he is really looking forward to.
"Until then, from this weekend on, I'm going to be traveling every single weekend, Friday to Sunday," he said.
Some members of the distance team will head to Fayetteville, Ark., for the Tyson Invite.
A few freshmen had notable weekends for the Wildcats in Flagstaff Saturday.
Bobby McCoy set the Arizona school record in the 60-meter dash (6.80 seconds), an event in which he doesn't normally run.
Megan Howard provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships in the shot put, with a throw of 52 feet-5 1/2.
In the first meet of her career, Jeanine Dancy placed eighth in the 100m hurdles.
"It was definitely a different transition from high school to college," she said.
Harvey said he thinks sophomore hurdler Jennifer Whitlock is due to have a breakout meet in Seattle.
"She is really on the fringe of doing something very, very special," he said. "She would've had a major (personal record) this past weekend, except she hit the fifth hurdle."
The Wildcats aren't taking anything for granted this weekend.
"The competition level is going to be very, very high at this meet," Harvey said.
