Following two years of the highest tuition hikes in UA history, President Peter Likins proposed another tuition increase in addition to mandatory and program fees at a press conference yesterday.

All students could be required to pay a mandatory fee of $60 next year for information technology, on top of a tuition increase of $400 for resident undergraduates, Likins said.

The proposals from both administration and student leaders will be voted on by Arizona Board of Regents March 10, to decide which proposal will be approved. [Read article]

While the No. 10 Arizona baseball team has been beating up on non-conference foes the first two weekends of its season, a more familiar opponent will be coming to town for a non-conference showdown tonight.

That team just happens to be in-state rival ASU.

The No. 11 Sun Devils (6-4) come calling today at 4 p.m. at Sancet Stadium, weeks before conference play begins to allow both schools to get in a full 56-game schedule.

Arizona head coach Andy Lopez said Arizona is a tough school to play at geographically midweek since it is difficult to fly them out the night after a Tuesday-Wednesday series. ASU has no such trouble having just a short drive south to Tucson. [Read article]

Last week, Congress tried to push through legislation to make it easy to remove class-action lawsuits from state to federal courts. The law's sponsors know that removal to federal courts - which are about as friendly to class action plaintiffs as Judge Judy in the morning - effectively sounds the death knell for those lawsuits.
