TODAY
- Laura Pulido, of the University of Southern California Department of Geography, lectures on "The Role of Central Americans in Militant Labor Organizing in Los Angeles." The discussion is part of the Brown Bag Lecture Series, and is from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m in Harvill Building Room 402.
- Marcia Damoso Vieira, of the National Museum of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, presents "Binding Relations in Mbya Guarani." This Linguistics Colloquium supplies an overview of binding relations in Mbya Guarani, which is spoken in Sao Paulo state, southeastern Brazil. The lecture is at 2 p.m. in Douglass Building Room 101, and is followed by a reception in the Department Lounge. Call 621-6898 for more information.
- Architect Richard E. Hulbert presents the lecture, "Urban Design Response - Ability... Satisfying Everybody and Their Dog!" Hulbert's work includes urban design, commercial projects, and housing and master planning. The lecture is at noon in the Center for Creative Photography Auditorium, located directly north of the Harvill Building.
- The women's volleyball team competes in the Doubletree Invitational, a tournament including teams from UA, Loyola, Northridge and San Diego State. The games run all day at McKale Center, and admission is free for UA students with ID and children aged 2 and younger. Prices are $4 for adults and $3 for senior citizens, faculty, and staff. SUNDAY
- John Brobeck plays in the Roy Johnson Memorial Organ Concert Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in Holsclaw Recital Hall, located in the Fine Arts Complex. Musical selections will include works by Bach, Byrd, Valente, Dupre, Mendelssohn and Vierne. Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for faculty, and $5 for senior citizens and students with ID.
- "Ken Burns presents 'The West': A Film by Stephen Ives" is a new, eight-part PBS film documentary series from the makers of "The Civil War" and "Baseball." It is an epic account told in the words of the rich and colorful figures who lived this saga of American history. KUAT-TV's local on-air host for this program event is Pulitzer Prize-winning author and UA Regents Professor N. Scott Momaday. The series airs Sunday through Thursday at 8 p.m., and next Sunday through Tuesday at 8 p.m. Each of the eight programs will be repeated the same evening, following KUAT's local "Arizona & The West" programming.
- UA plays the University of San Francisco in a women's soccer game Sunday at 5:30 in Murphy Soccer Stadium, located at Tucson Boulevard and Plummer Street.
