TODAY
- The University Activities Board and KAMP Student Radio presents a Wildcat Welcome Concert on the UA Mall - punk rock band Weird Lovemakers shares the stage with dance music's Gamera Crowns and Phoenix's punk band Pollen. The concert is free and begins at 7 p.m. An anonymous source at KAMP offers the advice, "The concert will be practicing peace, love and grooviness, so leave your poor attitudes at home and come to have a good time."
- Comedy Corner presents its first weekly comedy sketch of the semester from noon to 1 p.m. in the Student Union Cellar Theater.
TOMORROW
- UA plays Texas-El Paso in the first football game of the season at 7:07 p.m. The game is in the Arizona Stadium, and tickets range from $5 to $26. Call the McKale Ticket office at 621-2287 for details.
SUNDAY
- The School of Music and Dance presents "A Labor of Love," an alumni concert celebrating the arrival of a new Steinway Concert Grand Piano in the Music Department. Electronic orchestra Orchestra Nova joins UA pianists in the gala concert, which is at 3 p.m. in Crowder Hall, located in the Fine Arts Complex on Park and Speedway. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for employees and $5 for students and senior citizens.
- Tucson Pops Orchestra presents Music Under the Stars at Reid Park, 22nd Street and Country Club. The concert is free and begins at 7:30 p.m.
MONDAY
- "Twister," starring Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton as tornado-chasing scientists, opens at Gallagher Theatre and will play through Sept. 6 at 7:30 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. Admission is $2.50.
