Rooms scheduled for repairs in dorm burglarized during the winter break

By staff reports

Eleven residents of Arizona-Sonora Residence Hall reported Thursday that more than $1,900 worth of personal items were taken from their rooms during the winter break, university police reports stated.

The residents told police the items were locked in their rooms when they left for winter break. When they returned to the hall, 910 E. Fifth St., to begin the semester, the items were missing.

According to police reports, the exact value of the missing items was $1,928.

The residents told police the rooms were scheduled to have air filters changed over the winter break by Facilities Management staff, police reports stated.

All of the burglarized rooms were on the hall's ninth floor. No signs of forced entry were reported.

Some of the missing items include CDs, video cassettes, clothing, knives, money and a Sega Genesis game system.

Neither James Van Arsdel, director of the Department of Residence Life, nor Albert Tarcola, director of Facilities Management, could be reached for comment yesterday.
