Men's tennis hits court - finally

The Arizona men's tennis team is bored no longer.

They have not played any opponents since their Nov. 28 singles sweep over Hawaii-Hilo. They had hoped to play in the Quadrex Invitational last weekend, but it was canceled.

After a dismal preseason in which the team suffered many injuries, the Wildcats are finally going to get their chance to begin spring play this weekend in the Great Northwest Shootout.

"All of the guys have looked very fired up in practice this week," said senior Henrik Wagner, one of Arizona's key returning players. "We've all been waiting very long to start the season."

The indoor tournament, which is being held in Seattle, Wash., includes Tulsa, Northwestern, University of California-Santa Barbara, Boise State and Washington.

Arizona's first match will be on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. against the Tulsa/Washington winner.

Win or lose, the Wildcats will play on Sunday as well. If they beat Washington, they will play for the tournament championship in the afternoon, while if the Huskies are victorious, Arizona will play for third place on Sunday morning.
