Women's lacrosse one win from title

The Arizona women's lacrosse team seems to enjoy playing in California.

After all, the team hasn't lost there all year.

The Wildcats are heading to the Golden State again this weekend to play in a tournament at Cal-Poly San Luis Obispo, and this time they only need to win one game to clinch a first round bye in the Western Lacrosse League playoffs. Arizona will play San Luis Obispo in its tournament opener.

Arizona is 7-0 after winning three games in the Los Angeles area last weekend, and thoughts of going back to the Final Four are already entering the heads of team members.

"Definitely," senior attacker Jessica Deal said. "It'll take us putting everything together to get there, though."

Junior midfielder Kelly Matthies said upon finding out the team was only one win away, the feeling changed of how important this weekend's games are.

"Yeah I feel a little pressure, but I am confident we can win it," Matthies said.

The Wildcats lost in the Final Four last year after losing only one game all season to San Diego. This year, Arizona beat the Toreros 11-6 in San Diego.

If the Wildcats win one game, they will also get to host a second round contest and clinch the league's regular season title.

Deal was among the Wildcats' leading scorers last weekend with seven goals in two games. The third game was a forfeit.

Other top scorers in Arizona's 11-8 victory against Claremont and 13-3 win over Whittier included Andrea Bozzolo (8) and Sarah Schier (4).

Arizona's regular season finale will be at home against UCLA April 11.
